One Scarf to Rule Them All...

This is a project that I have been working on for a very long time.  I believe I started it in May, worked on through the spring, and a little bit in the summer.  Once school started, I kind of put it on the back burner while I was trying to get ready for Lowell Open Studios and then the Holiday Open Studios.  Basically, it is a long double knit (reversible) start that follows the story of The Hobbit.

Believe it or not, this was my very first double knit project... I know, I must be insane!  Fingering weight yarn and size 0 needles!!  That wasn't smart... but, I found once I got in a good rhythm it wasn't particularly hard, just tedious.  Basically double knitting is just 1x1 ribbing that you have to pay attention to which color you are using when.  Since then I have finished another double knit project (check out my Custom Wu-Tang Neckwarmer), and am kind of enamored with the possibilities!

Anyway... One of my knitting goals is to finish this scarf by the end of 2015 (I am currently about one-third of the way done, I just started chart 4).  Seems like it should be attainable, but I also thought I'd have it done by Christmas and that didn't happen.  Eleven charts, eight hundred and ten rows, double knit, fingering yarn, size zero needles... Quite a daunting task!!  Like Biblo I will find my courage and persevere!! Here's  a little more detail of what I have finished so far:

Top: Flower Gardent, Bilbo's House, Tree

  • Middle: Three Trolls, Rivendell

  • Bottom: Path Through the Mountains, Goblin Kingdom, Finding the Ring (and a little bit of the 5 fir trees!)
